There’s a new ranking system that looks into America’s smartest cities, and Austin comes in at one of the top spots. In fact, the study puts it at number nine in terms of the most-educated metros and leads the Texas metro rankings by a wide margin.
The study was released by WalletHub and the company compared the data from 150 of the largest metros across 11 metrics. The data compares the share of adults 25 and older with at least a bachelor’s degree, the quality of public schools, and the gender gap in education.
Amongst some of the variables tested, Austin came in at number 10 for its share of adults with at least a bachelor’s degree and 12 and 13 for its quality of public schools and its share of adults with an associate’s degree or college experience. These are just some of the more notable rankings that contributed to the remarkable and overall score bringing Austin to the ninth most educated metros.
Economists often marvel at the well-educated workforce in the Austin area. In fact, it’s considered one of the strong suits of the community. Compared to the national average of just 32 percent, nearly 45 percent of adults in the Austin area hold at least a bachelor’s degree.
Those aren’t the only remarkable numbers the Chamber found though. Austin is a hub for so much, and that includes education. There are more than 50 colleges and universities within a radius of 100 miles of the city. With students and adults flocking to achieve a higher education and coming to the city to find a job afterward, there’s a reason why the Austin community continues to thrive as a smart and evolving neighborhood.
