Make Your Home Feel More Complete-Prism Realty-Austin Real Estate-Cedar Park Real Estate-leander real estate-georgetown real estate

Do you feel like your home decor isn’t “finished?” There may be blank walls because you haven’t found the right art to add. Or cluttered corners because you haven’t had the energy to sort them out yet. Are you ready to bite the bullet and finish decorating? Here are a few ways to make your home feel more complete.

Bare Walls

Even if you’ve had your decor figured out for years, you may still have awkward empty spaces around your home. You may even have some art saved to your ‘favorites’ list but haven’t added them to your basket yet.  For some, there’s a fear of not buying the ‘right’ art.  But who’s to say what’s suitable for your home?  The definition of art is “anything that evokes an emotion.” If you like it, then it’s the right art for you!  Or, consider alternative decor, like mirrors that bounce light around the room or floating shelves to display favorite objects.  If holes in walls are a deterrent, outline the area on your walls with some low adhesive tape first.  Outlining it will help you visualize what the art will look like before grabbing a hammer and nail.  If the thought is still crippling, hire a pro to do it for you.

Houseplants

Plants not only help purify the air in your home, but they also breathe life into your decor. Without them, a home can feel a little lifeless. If you don’t have a green thumb, start with a hard-to-kill houseplant. Place your plants at varying heights. Use a tall fiddle leaf fig, a fern elevated on a plant stand, or a pothos suspended from the ceiling. If watering the plants keeps you from adding them to your decor, invest in self-watering globes to do the work.  If live plants are still not something you feel you can keep up with, many fake options look real.  Faux succulents or pothos plants are difficult to decipher and impossible to kill!

Bookshelves

Giving shelves a quick makeover can dramatically change the look of a room.  Separate your books by color or height for more visual interest. If you have room for it, place a small stack of books horizontally and add a decorative bowl or knick-knack. A fake succulent is also a great addition for some natural shape and color. No rule says only books have to go on bookshelves. Mix in a vase or two, or art pieces to make the arrangement look more deliberate.

Clusters

Look around your home and find a few similar objects that can be grouped into ‘mini-arrangements.’ Mini-arrangements should tell a story or have a theme. Place these clusters on a coffee table, fireplace mantel, or side tables around your home. Funky found objects, collectibles, vases, and, yep – plants can all be used in a cluster.  Group objects that are special to you and tell a story about your life.
