When Is The Cheapest Time To Move?

Let’s face it, moving isn’t the most fun thing to do, but sometimes it has to be done due to a job relocation, a closer commute, or whatever the reason may be. When you think about moving, you probably want to find the company with the most affordable pricing and can get your items from Point A to Point B with little to no hassle. But have you ever wondered if there is a specific time of year when moving is cheaper?

Let’s take a look at a few factors that may help sway when your next move is.

Which Season Is The Cheapest?

Typically peak moving season is from May to September because, in terms of weather, this is the prime time of the year. The weather is good, you don’t have to worry about ice or snow on the roads, and the children are out of school for summer break. Due to the high volume of people who move during this time, moving companies are in high demand, which means it’s more expensive.

That said, the winter months are considered the off-season and are generally cheaper because moving companies are in lower demand. Depending on the moving company, you can sometimes see reduced moving rates up to 30% lower than the peak moving months. Of course, with cheap moving rates comes dealing with cold winters, so you’ll have to consider that when making your decision.

Which Month Is The Cheapest?

As you can probably guess, the cheapest month to move is a winter month: January. Although it is the cheapest, it’s also historically the coldest month, so you may have to deal with snow, ice, and freezing temperatures. Usually, Texas winters aren’t that bad, but if we have weather like we had this year in the future, it could be a difficult time for moving.

Which Day Is The Cheapest?

People tend to like to move on the weekends, so they don’t have to take time off work, which means those are the peak moving days. Generally, the cheapest days to move are Mondays and Thursdays because people tend to make a long weekend out of it and add days on. Fridays are busy for the same reason: people will take that day off of work and add it to their weekend.

The next time you plan your move, remember that Mondays or Thursdays in the winter are your best bet to save money! If you are looking for recommendations for moving companies or have any other questions, please reach out to us! We would love to be a resource for you!
